Spiderman 4 & 5 to shoot together?

After the bitter taste left in my mouth by Spiderman 3, it almost pains me to report that SPIDERMAN 4 & 5 may well get filmed back to back!

The writer JAMES VANDERBILT (Zodiac) has turned in a working script for a Spiderman 4, and according to insiders, his story arc also encompasses number 5 - making the two movies shootable together.

Of course Sony has now seen dollar signs and is currently putting together a new deal for Vanderbilt.

So why the fuss on Sony's part? Well, shooting back to back is a much easier and more cost effective way to shoot. Essentially, they'd be shooting one expensive movie as opposed to two - maximising profits in the process.

so far there's no news on the plot, and it's not known whether Sam Raimi, Tobey Maguire and Kirsten Dunst will return, much of that will depend on the deal when it's put on the table.

Pictured is a fan made teaser poster for Spiderman 4, also check out a recent Stan Lee interview discussing Spidy number 4 below:

Sam Raimi & Tobey Maguire in Spider Man 4 and 5 Sequel

It's time to end once and for all the rampant speculation. Sony doesn't want any info to leak but I'm told that both star Tobey Maguire and director Sam Raimi will be returning to make ZodiacSpider-Man 4. Sources tell me that Sony has recently locked in both veterans of Spider-Man 1 through 3. And I do mean recently because just a few weeks ago sources told me that Sony Pictures co-chairman Amy Pascal was openly discussing Tobey's potential replacements with various Hollywood agents because Tobey was hanging tough about a deal. "She was looking around to cover herself because Sony wanted him badly and Tobey wasn't sure he wanted to do it," an insider explained to me. (Later today, a Sony Pictures spokesman claimed to me on the record, "There was never anyone considered for the role but Tobey.")

screenwriter Jamie Vanderbilt's script of

There's no deal yet for Kirsten Dunst but Mary Jane Watson will be in the movie again. I'm told Sony "would never recast her" despite her rehab problems. But expect another gal part, too.

Gone is the black costume from Spidey 3, even though "dark" is all the rage in superhero movies right now given the enormous success of The Dark Knight. But I'm told the filmmakers won't be borrowing from the latest Batman installment because "Spider-Man is its own thing," one insider tells me. "Sam Raimi made the first serious superhero movie, and others followed. The difference between Spider-Man and Batman is that Batman is duelling with a dark side of himself, and that's not what Peter Parker's struggle is. Peter Parker has no dark side himself. In Spider-Man 3 it was the black costume. Peter Parker's struggle is about sacrifice."

Sony is taking its time officially hiring the movie's villain since principal photography doesn't start on Spider-Man 4 until next fall because of the recently postponed May 2011 release. kirsten-spider-3.jpgI am told, however, that "once you find out who the villain is, you'll know who's playing it." That should lead to speculation that Dylan Baker's character of Dr. Curt Connors will ultimately turn into The Lizard as he did in the comic books. There's one other character that's been set up but is a real longshot -- Daniel Gillies, who plays John Jameson, the astronaut fiance of Mary Jane in Spider-Man 2. In the comics he becomes the villain Man-Wolf. Raimi has said in the past that he wants the best actors to play the villains in the movie, not necessarily the most famous.

I'm also told that, right now, the studio is trying to figure out if it can feasibly shoot Spider-Man 4 and 5 at the same time because doing that is so cost effective and "it wasn't so easy to get everybody back together".

Meanwhile, Sony is moving forward on its Spider-Man Broadway musical with music and lyrics by Bono and The Edge of U2 to be directed by Julie Taymor, the Tony Award-winning director of The Lion King. I'm still in a state of shock that Amy Pascal and Julie Taymor are working together again after the knock-down, drag-out fights they had over Sony/Revolution's Across The Universe. This is one of those showbiz moments when the Hollywood maxim, "I'll never work with you again until I need you", comes true.

And Sony has hired a pair of screenwriters to get going on the Spider-Man 3 spinoff movie Venom. Given that comic book artist/writer and action figure maker, Todd McFarlane, who is one of the creators of the Marvel villain, doesn't think a Venom movie could do well with a villain as the central character, my sources think Sony should let Topher Grace, even though he was blown up at the end of Spider-Man 3 (yet a portion of the Venom costume survived), stay in the role because the likeable actor could be a a sympathetic evildoer.

Meanwhile, you can snag a walk-on role on the movie via an eBay auction that ends at 7 PM PDT today. That's an hour before the broadcast networks ABC, CBS and NBC collaborate to air a historic, live and commercial-free television event, Stand Up To Cancer. Yes, Sony is allowing the charity to sell off the "Spider-Man 4 VIP Experience" which includes: a visit to the set of Spider-Man 4 (one shooting day, location of visit will be determined by Sony Pictures based on scheduling of visit), a meet-and-greet with the cast (1 hour), a walk-on/extra role in the film for the auction winner only (role and length of screen time to be determined by Sony Pictures), a trip to the New York premiere (location of U.S. premiere may be changed at Sony Pictures’ discretion), designer outfits to wear to premiere for winner and guest from top designers (designers to be chosen by Sony Pictures; winner and guest may keep the outfits; winner and guest will walk the premiere’s red carpet).

BATMAN articles : Batman, Cartoon Character
  • Born: 1939
  • Birthplace: The Comics
  • Best Known As: Star of the Batman movies batman

The superhero Batman was the brainchild of cartoonist Bob Kane. The character first a p peared in Detective Comics in 1939, and was such a hit that Batman comics remained in print in one form or another into the 21st century. Batman is the "caped crusader," the crimefighting alter -ego of millionaire Bruce Wayne. Wayne inherited a fortune as a boy after his parents were killed by robbers; when Wayne grew up he dedicated himself to fighting crime and chose the guise of a bat in order to strike fear into the hearts of criminals. (Unlike Superman and Spider-Man, Batman is a human with no supernatural powers.) Batman lives in Gotham City and operates out of his secret crime laboratory, the Bat Cave. He battles exotic supervillains including the Joker, Two-Face, Catwoman and the Penguin, and is often aided by a sidekick, Robin the Boy Wonder. Over the years Batman has appeared in many media and with various levels of seriousness. The 1960s live-action TV series was played for laughs, with a deadpan Adam West as Batman and nutty celebrity villains including Zsa Zsa Gabor as Minerva and Roddy McDowall as the Bookworm. (The series also featured Yvonne Craig as Batgirl.) Two decades later Batman was reinvigorated by the 1986 publication of Frank Miller's gloomy, acerbic graphic novel The Dark Knight Returns. Miller's work inspired a darkly popular Batman feature film, directe d by Tim Burton and starring Michael Keaton as the caped crusader and Jack Nicholson as the Joker. (Val Kilmer and George Clooney played Batman in sequels.) Batman: The Animated Series began a long run on TV in 1992, with Kevin Conroy as Batman and well-known voices like Mark Hamill as the Joker and Adrienne Barbeau as Catwoman. The film series was revived in 2005 with Batman Begins, starring Christian Bale as Batman and Michael Caine as his faithful butler, Alfred. Another sequel, The Dark Knight, again starring Bale and with the late Heath Ledger as the Joker, was released in July 2008.

Batman's first home, Detective Comics, later became better known as D.C. Comics.

PETER PAN articles : The Man Who Wrote Peter Pan

After I've gotten to know an author, I like to find out whether his life matches up with my notions. So the publication of Lisa Chaney's A Life of James Barrie a year or so ago was especially timely, since I'd been working through Barrie's novels and plays over the last couple of years. I wish it hadn't taken me so long to know them.

Barrie's importance stretches far beyond Peter Pan, and Chaney gives due attention to other stages of his life and to his many other literary and dramatic successes. Chaney falls occasionally into amateur psychoanalysis, but Barrie was so eccentric that I can hardly blame her. She writes well, though her book contains a surprising number of spelling errors, mostly the sort of thing that spellcheck programs don't pick up, like "it's" versus "its".

(I have fond and vivid memories of a dark, very adult-focused production of Peter Pan at the Shaw Festival a few years ago, far different from the sentimental, kid-oriented version that high schools put on. In London a couple of years ago, we were delighted to find a statute of Peter Pan in Kensington Gardens, where Barrie often strolled from his nearby home.)

I was pleased to learn from Chaney about Barrie's friendships with Thomas Hardy and other luminaries like Arthur Conan Doyle, R. L. Stevenson, H. G. Wells, and George Meredith. But Chaney makes little effort to relate Barrie's work to that of his contemporaries, other than to contrast Peter Pan with other significant works of children's literature.

There was surely more to be said. Personally, I could not help linking Barrie's early A Window in Thrums, a book of tender episodes in the lives of rustic Scots, to Hardy's Under the Greenwood Tree, an episodic early novel containing affectionate portrayals of English rustics. And given their friendship, was it coincidence that Hardy abandoned novel-writing for poetry about the same time that Barrie abandoned novel-writing for drama? I would have liked to know what Chaney thought.

By the time of his last novel, The Little White Bird, Barrie had achieved a degree of control over language and tone that, in my view, would be surpassed only by E. M. Forster and P. G. Wodehouse in the twentieth century. He had an ear for dialect to rival Hardy's. The half-dozen best of his ingenious and felicitous plays, gems like The Admirable Crichton, Mary Rose, and What Every Woman Knows, not to mention Peter Pan, ought to last as long as Shaw's.

And how do the facts of Barrie's life relate to his writings? Pretty well, I think. I had gathered from his novels and plays that Barrie had an emotional connection to pre-industrial Scotland and England, along with its language and traditions; that he half-believed that the British Isles were still subject to pagan forces and beings; that he was essentially asexual and perhaps stunted in his emotional and social development; and that he had a highly romantic view of childhood and children. All this is confirmed, more or less, in Chaney's book. I never believed, as suggested by the recent Neverland movie, that Barrie tended toward pedophilia, and neither does Chaney. Barrie's novels, some of which have writers as main characters, suggest that he honored the writer's craft, and his biography bears that out.

Sport car articles : ACROSS THE POND - VAUXHALL ASTRA VXR 888

One wonders at the counterintuitive ability of automotive manufacturers to intentionally make something significantly better than something else. Follow me: the Mercedes-Benz CLS63 AMG is, underneath it all, very similar to a Mercedes-Benz E200 Kompressor taxi you see on Munich streets. Strip away the exhaustive rebodying, and the story behind the Vauxhall Astra VXR 888 and the Saturn Astra strides along the same path.
Surely you're aware that the Astra available in North America at Saturn dealerships began life as an Opel/Vauxhall in Europe. In fact, Holden had it before us, too. In some countries, the Astra's badged as a Chevrolet. But we were last in line.
When the Astra finally arrived on our shores, currency issues meant it wasn't priced quite low enough to be a high volume car on this continent. Despite knowing the Astra was a better car than a Chevrolet Cobalt, swinging a slightly larger monthly payment for buyers with this sort of income isn't easy. So, for the most part, people have avoided the Astra, perhaps one of the best small cars General Motors has ever offered to its domestic customers.
Besides the price, other issues cropped up. Why did something as sporty-looking as the 3-door Astra, with its wonderfully arching roofline and beautiful 5-spoke wheels, come equipped with just a 1.8L, 138 horsepower engine? Okay, that's fine as a starting point.... maybe. But if this is going to be a premium player, where's the beef?
With this in mind, take a look Across The Pond. GM's UK branch, Vauxhall, hasn't been shy about the power quotient of the current Astra since the day it debuted. Engines generating significantly less than 138 horsepower are available, but so are a 1.6L turbo with 177, a 1.9L diesel with 150, and a 2.0L turbo with 237 in the VXR.
Now, for something more.
Triple Eight Engineering is the team behind VX Racing's Astra in the British Touring Car Championship. Success is the order of the day. With previous special edition Vauxhalls under their belt, the latest Astra VXR 888 was inevitably going to be truly special. At least under the hood.
295 horsepower and 317 lb-ft of torque must now be transmitted through the front tires. Yikes. The Remus sports exhaust is £850 but accounts for 20 of the additional ponies. £550 of software updates helps discover the remainder of the extra horsepower. Better brakes thin out your wallet to the tune of £1,600. evo magazine (pic provision) says, " No, the 888 doesn’t have the deeply impressive deployment skills of Renault’s class-leading R26 Mégane, but it remains on the right side of the line that divides fun from terror and control from chaos." Lack of chaos is good.
Any Astra VXR, however bruised and battered, can be retrofitted with the parts that make up the recent Triple Eight package. Complaints regarding steering feel remain and obviously the price is depressingly large. One way or another, we all know that Saturn would never consider offering this car to North Americans. Sad reality? It's unlikely that, were it to be offered, there'd be very many takers because of a prohibitive pricing scheme.
Representing a generation of first-time new car buyers, The Good Car Guy puts words to their thoughts and feelings. The Good Car Guy is a guy all about the good car. Advance the good car - dethrone the bad car.

Sport car articles : Transformers 2 - Nissan GT-R Action Figure Toy

transformers nissan gt-r toy action figure

Some new images have just surfaced of some new Transformers action figures of the Audi R8 and surprisingly a Nissan GT-R. This brings out all the OUUUUS and AWEESSS of the kid in me. I used to own a Porsche JAZZ Autobot figure back in the day, which in the last Transformers movie they decided to make him a tuned Pontiac Solstice…YUCK… Ether way I am happy to see that some respectable automotive variety will be in this new movie. The Audi R8 toy in question appears to be a Decepticon and the GT-R is badged as an Autobot. It will be neat to see the two most hyped cars of the year battle it out in intergalactic warfare!!! ;)

Judging by the Transformers 2: Revenge of the Fallen Trailer that teased us during this years Superbowl, we can see that they have finally come to their senses and expanded their car repertoire outside of the usual boring American car realm. A quick glimpse in the trailer shows us that an Audi R8 will make an appearance.

The thing is when tuning an Italian supercar, you don’t want to take things too far - and tuner IMSA seems to be pretty careful when its comes to that. There’s no doubt that the 552-hp Lamborghini LP560-4 is already a powerful bull with a 0 to 60 mph time 3.9 seconds.

Leaving the engine untouched, IMSA is cutting the weight off the LP560-4 with a high-quality carbon fiber GTV kit. The kit includes a new aerodynamically optimised front apron, larger fenders for all four wheel arches, side skirts and a rear bumper with an integrated diffuser. More details about the kit will be released at a later date.

The IMSA GTV kit gives those wanting a little more aggressive appearance for their LP560-4 something to consider. What’s your take?

: Alfa MiTo GTA Concept Photo Real - Plus, We've Got Official Details and new Scoop Pics!

Following our article on the Alfa Romeo MiTo GTA Concept where we questioned the legitimacy of a photograph of the car that has been circulating around the net, we were contacted by one of our most trusted inside sources. To cut the chase, our man proved to us beyond any doubt that this photograph is indeed official. Furthermore, he gave us all the initial details on Alfa's scorching hit minicar that's destined to debut at next month's Geneva Show... And even though we couldn't obtain any more photos, coincidentally, one of our readers from Valencia, Spain, managed to capture the MiTo GTA on the road right after a nearby photo shoot-out.

Unfortunately, the photos were shot from a very long distance, so very few details of the car are clearly visible. What we could manage to see is the blacked out rooftop, the side air-vents, the dark alloy wheels and the large openings on the front bumper.

But if you just can't wait until the beginning of next week to see the official image gallery, here's what we learned from our source. The new MiTo GTA will feature a working bodykit that improves the car's CX drag coefficient. In details, the front end is characterized by the wide air intakes, the new styling of the classic Alfa grille, the badge that has been positioned on the bonnet and the new bumper. As for what we saw as a hood scoop, turns out it's a windscreen wiper deflector...

From the side, the GTA will be distinguished by the dark-finished 19-inch forged aluminum rims, the 8C Competizione-inspired air-vents and the aerodynamic miniskirts. As for the car's rear end, the restyled bumper has an air extractor to increase aerodynamic downforce while at the center it incorporates a large diameter twin exhaust pipe. Furthermore, the tailgate has been completely redesigned, using carbon fiber technology and incorporating an integral spoiler with a wing which is wider in the upper and side sections.

Inside, we were told that the GTA will get a blacked out trim while a red stitching runs all the way round the car. Unique features will include new air vents, specially designed for the MiTo GTA Concept and embellished with aluminum inserts, an ergonomically designed sports steering wheel and instruments with new graphics (the speedometer has an end of scale of 300 Km/h).

And what about under the hood? The MiTo GTA Concept sport's a new 1.75-liter turbocharged 4-cylinder gasoline engine producing an output of 240-horsepower. Developed by the engineers of FPT - Fiat Powertrain Technologies, the four-pot unit uses various technical solutions, including direct gasoline injection, dual VVT, the turbocharger and, according to Alfa, a "revolutionary management system".

Even though no acceleration figures have been released, Alfa claims that the MiTo GTA's 1.75L Turbo will offer performances comparable with those of an engine of 3.0-liters, while consumption is maintained at levels typical of a 4-cylinder engine of average capacity.

Though we do know that the MiTo GTA Concept will retain the front-wheel drive layout of the standard versions, we weren't able to find out with what type of transmission it will be equipped.

To enhance the MiTo's handling qualities, Alfa Romeo's engineers performed various upgrades on the chassis. Among other things, they completely revised the operating parameters of the suspension, lowering it by about 20 mm and upgraded the steering system for a more direct and precise feeling. Alfa Romeo also developed a new "active suspension system" with Magneti Marelli and a high-performance braking system with Brembo.

Sport car articles : Audi Drops out of 2009 American Le Mans Series audi racing car
Audi announced today that it was "adjusting" its motorsports presence in 2009. This means the team was a pioneer for the "Green Racing" initiative of the American Le Mans Series will no longer be lapping the tracks in the U.S. and Canada.

Instead, Audi will be putting its focus on the new R15 TDI sport prototype that it is developing for the 24 Hours of Le Mans race. The R15 TDI is a re-worked race touring car A4 for the DTM circuit. It will also concentrate its motorsports efforts on the newly developed R8 LMS for customer use in the GT3 class

Since the year 2000, when the brand entered the ALMS, Audi has been influential in bringing the series up to its current level of popularity. Dr. Wolfgang Ullrich, the head of Audi Motorsport admits the decision to withdraw was a tough one. Audi has won the LMP1 title nine-times in a row with the R8 and the R10 TDI.

The R10 TDI had a big hand in Audi's launch of the TDI technology in its road cars in the U.S. Currently, the Q7 is available with a 3.0-liter TDI engine and a TDI engine will find its way into the new A4 later next year. Further proof of the technology transfer is the Audi R8 TDI Le Mans concept that debuted in Detroit last year.

Sport car articles : New details on Audi TT-RS, headed for Gevena Motor Show

Schein-Luft-Felge_2_3__mid

Just a few days ago there was a "fake teaser" put together by someone and sent to the inbox of automotive news desks across the internet that showed what appeared to be an Audi TT-RS. This fake photo did not fool us. Today we have got the official teaser shots and some new details hot new Audi TT-RS luxury sport coupe.

Debuting at the Geneva Motor Show next month, the new Audi TT-RS will have direct gasoline injection and turbocharging to deliver more than 300 bhp for this new vehicle from Audi. This turbochargede 2.5 liter will be good for a note to sixty in under 5 second while offering a top speed that is electronically limited to around 155 mph. As expected the TT-RS comes standard with Quattro all wheel driver for driving through those curves or inclement weather and braking power that one would expect from a TT-RS model. Underneath the skin of the new Audi TT-RS is the Audi Space Frame principle which means that it is lightweight and mainly aliminum.

Sport car articles : Alfa Romeo Mito GTA: First images

Alfa Romeo Mito GTA: First images

The new Alfa Romeo Mito GTA will be on show at next week’s Geneva motor show, and thanks to AutoCar, we have the first official images. Not much is known about this ‘production-ready’ concept, but we do know that it will come with a 1.8-litre turbocharged Fiat engine, which will produce 240hp.

That kind of power should be more than enough to worry the likes of the Mini Cooper. The car sits low, 20mm lower than the standard Alfa Romeo Mito, the new front suspension geometry and the active suspension system helps to improve the handling of this new sports hatchback.

The people over at Alfa have been working hard on reducing the weight of the Mito GTA, as well as lowering its centre of gravity. Many of the components such as the door mirrors, roof and rear spoiler, have been made from carbon fiber.

Sport car articles : Audi TT RS | teaser

2010 Audi TT RSAfter the unveiling of the last Audi TT, TT-S, 2.0L TDI diesel-powered TT, and finally, the entry-level 1.8L TFSI model, there’s one more TT variant in the works and it could potentially be the fastest production TT ever. The new car is the performance RS variant of the TT and these leaked official shots reveal a few vital clues about it.

The car will be called the TT-RS and it will come with a fixed rear wing as opposed to the adjustable spoiler found on more mundane TT models. The images also comfirma new bumper design, revealing a look similar to that seen on last year’s striking V12 TDI R8 concept car.

The smart money is betting on an inline five-cylinder petrol engine displacing just 2.5L. According to a previously leaked memo, the compact engine will output a healthy 340hp (253kW) and 332lb-ft (450Nm) thanks to the addition of a twin-turbocharging system. This should see it accelerate from 0-100km/h in less than five seconds and easily reach an electronically controlled top speed of 250km/h.

Both a Coupe and Roadster will be launched and both cars will feature the same power output, quattro AWD and a six-speed transmission - though it's not yet clear if it will be a dual-clutch unit or a traditional manual. Other features listed in the memo include 18in aluminum wheels with a dual five-spoke design, twin-exit oval exhaust pipes, matte aluminum headlight housings, and a unique interior with Alcantara and leather trim.

We won’t have to wait too long now to see the new Audi TT-RS as it is scheduled to make its debut next month at the Geneva Motor Show. If, like us, you can’t wait then click here for our previous spy shot stories.

Update: more pictures of the new 2010 Audi TT RS
We showed you yesterday the first cropped images with the new Audi TT RS, and today we already have a video with the beautiful sound of the car and more pictures. The new Audi TT RS will be available in both Coupe and Roadster version. The german company has equipped the Audi TT RS with a new turbocharged 5-cylinder engine with direct-injection and a capacity of 2.5-liters. The new 2010 Audi TT RS also features revised suspensions and more powerful brakes, and a revised electronic stability control system (ESP).

With all the upgrades made the new 2010 Audi TT RS develops 340-horspower with a maximum torque of 450 Nm or 331.9-lbs/ft. 2010 Audi TT RS uses Audi's quattro all-wheel drive system with power being transferred through a six-speed manual gearbox. In terms of performance, Audi says that the TT RS will accelerate from zero to 100 km/h (62 mph) in under 5,0 seconds with a top speed being electronically limited to 250 km/h or 155 mph.

The exterior of Audi TT RS gets a rather subtle treatment over the 272HP TT S model with slightly larger front air vents, a distinctive rear diffuser, a fixed boot spoiler and twin-spoke alloy wheels.

At the interior of the 2010 Audi TT RS we will find a leather multifunction sports steering wheel along with sports seats in Alcantara.

The 2010 Audi TT RS Coupe and Roadster will be available in European markets during the second quarter of the year. Audi has not approved the TT RS for U.S.
